Couples Therapy

Whether you are in a traditional heteronormative relationship or one that spans the spectrum of various minority relational choices — Polyamorous, Same sex, etc. — intimate romantic relationships can be some of the most challenging, as well as most rewarding aspects of our lives. Often times, we bring our relational and communication patterns from childhood and family of origin into these relationships unconsciously. These do not get highlighted during the honeymoon and infatuation phases of a relationship but can easily erupt later once the relationship is established. If these patterns take over, they can cause gridlock in relating for partners. Luckily, psychologists and researchers have studied many of these relationship dynamics and found ways to effectively address them. In addition to mindfulness practices, our method of couples therapy draws heavily on Gottman Couples Therapy and Emotion Focused Couples Therapy among others. See the links below to learn more about how these approaches can help your relationship both survive and thrive.
